Statesman: Season For Caring: Nichole

Being homeless, couch surfing or living in her old car or in a storage unit “was very sad,” said Nichole Babbitt, 40. “I felt defeated. … I felt like a failure.”

Last year, after 20 years as an addict, Babbitt entered drug rehab for 90 days and got clean. She went to Narcotics Anonymous every day either in person or online. She connected with homeless services at Sunrise Church, Ending Community Homelessness Coalition and the Foundation for the Homeless, which nominated her to the Statesman’s Season for Caring program and has helped her find and afford housing.
